Discover the full history of Transistor by Supergiant Games | Video games

We have emerged from the depths of the BioShock series to start a new season of Video Gameography! We’re doing things differently this time because we’re discussing a single developer’s game rather than including a series of individual games. That studio is Supergiant Games, the famous indie developer of Bastion, Transistor, Pyre and Hades. This week, we continue our season by analyzing the second game in the Supergiant’s catalog, Transistor.

Released for PlayStation 4 on May 18, 2014 and PC a day later, Transistor is a very different game by Supergiant from the freshman effort a few years earlier. Development began just a few months after Bastion’s release, and while its first game was a huge success, the tight-lipped studio wanted to prove what they’re doing isn’t lightning in a bottle. In this episode, we’ll discuss the different ways Supergiant has countered Bastion’s ever-present shadow in the studio’s game design and production methods. We also cover the process of creating a new nostalgic-inspired cyberpunk setting, unique tactical action combat, and how the studio landed an unnamed lounge singer named Red and the sword. her talking character, Transistor, as the main character.

Join host Marcus Stewart (@MarcusStewart7), John Carson (@John_Carson), and Game informant Magazine Content Director Matt Miller (@MatthewRMiller) to walk through the history and narrative of the Transistor!
