Dick Cheney, a lifelong Republican, is voting for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris
Former Vice President Dick CheneyA longtime Republican, will vote for Kamala Harris for president, his daughter Liz Cheney said Friday.
Liz Cheney, herself endorsed by Harris made the announcement Thursday when asked by Mark Leibovich of The Atlantic magazine during an onstage interview at the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin.
“Dick Cheney will vote for Kamala Harris,” Liz Cheney said to cheers from the audience.
“Oh,” Leibovich replied.
Like his daughter, Dick Cheney was an outspoken critic of former President Donald Trump, particularly during Liz Cheney’s unsuccessful 2022 re-election campaign.
In one campaign advertising In a speech to Liz Cheney as she sought a fourth term as Wyoming’s only congresswoman, Dick Cheney called Trump a “coward” for trying to “steal the last election by using lies and violence to stay in power after voters rejected him.”
The ad did nothing for his daughter in a deeply red state that was once beloved by the Cheney family but now overwhelmingly supports Trump. By a 2-1 margin, Liz Cheney lost the Republican primary for Trump-backed attorney Harriet Hageman.
Notably absent from Friday’s endorsement announcement was the former vice president, who has largely been out of the public eye for more than a year.
