Diablo 4 pre-order beta beset by long queues and connection problems

Diablo 4Pre-order beta is underway. That means those who paid for the hack-and-slash sequel are now enjoying the quintessential modern Diablo experience: queue up to play for hours, and get disconnected spontaneously if they try. Try to enjoy a few monster killing moments.
Blizzard said it was monitoring the issues and, a few hours ago, said it had applied fixes that improve wait times.
There is a post on the Diablo forum to track known issuesbut also a separate theme specifically to deal with queuing and disconnection issues.
In that thread, Blizzard identified a number of issues, including longer-than-anticipated screen timeouts, authentication issues resulting in players being unable to connect or disconnecting, players being unable to participate in join a party while in-game, or get told they can’t reconnect after being canceled because “their group doesn’t exist” and more.
Thankfully, at least some of these can be fixed now. “Last night, the team released a couple of backend server hotfixes to address server stability and player side issues that we reported last night,” said one. the update says from the Blizzard community manager from two hours ago. “This has resulted in significantly improved queue times, so players will experience much shorter wait times to get into the game.”
Beta is for testing a game and finding these kinds of problems, so it’s no surprise that this is how the Diablo IV beta is going. However, next weekend will bring an open beta and even more players, so a lot of the fixes will need to be applied extremely quickly for a smoother rollout to new players. .
