Diablo 4 Murmuring Obels And Whispering Key Explained

In spite of Diablo 4 It’s only been released in beta, but there’s already plenty of new content for fans to discover. There’s a new open world to explore, a skill tree to unlock and experiment with, and loads of enemies to destroy. While all of this is technically new to all players, longtime Diablo players will certainly understand most of what’s going on around them. However, there are a few completely new mechanics and features in Diablo 4 that every player will have to learn. One of these new features is an item called Obol whispered.
Players may notice that they have earned some of these mysterious coins, but they may not understand exactly how they got them or what they are used for. We’re unraveling the mystery surrounding Murmuring Obels so players have less to worry about in Sanctuary.
The Purpose of Murmuring Obels
Currently, in the Diablo 4 beta, there is only one use for Murmuring Obels. Players can visit the Purveyor of Curiosities shop, marked with a bank symbol on your map, and use their Murmuring Obels to buy some mysterious items. Items are broken down by category and categories are as follows:
- All weapons for your class (e.g. Mages only see Focus, Wand, Scepter)
- Cap
- Ao Dai
- Glove
- Boots
- Trouser
- whisper key

In addition to the Whisper Key, players can spend varying amounts of Murmuring Obels for a chance to earn a rare item in each specific category. For example, if you need a new Scepter for your Wizard character, you can spend 75 Murmuring Obol Bullets at the Purveyor of Curiosities shop. You will then have a chance to be rewarded with a rare Scepter. Note, Just because you spend Obols doesn’t mean you’ll get a rare item. You only have a chance to be rewarded with that one rare item. If you have bad luck, you’ll just get a regular item that’s likely no better than what you’re equipping. It’s gambling, Diablo 4 style, basically.
All types are priced differently, with armor sets costing less than weapons. However, the shop will only have weapons based on your current class, so you won’t be able to buy Scepters or Wands like a Barbarian for example. However, if you’re feeling lucky and are looking for a new Ao Dai or melee weapon, then you can take your chance at Curiosity Vendor.
For whisper key, this item is only used to open Silent Chests, very few and far on the map. Although, as far as we can tell, the Purveyor of Curiosities store is the only location that sells these keys. They cost 20 Obol each and you are guaranteed to get one if you choose to buy it.

You can see exactly how many Murmuring Obols you have in your inventory by opening the Character menu (C on your keyboard) and looking at the bottom of the window. To the right of where your Gold is displayed, there will be a pair of purple circles and a number to the right of them. That number is your current Obels number.
How to get Obels Murmuring
If you’re in the mood for gambling but don’t have enough Murmuring Obels for the weapon you want, you can go out and try to buy some in Diablo 4. So far in the beta, the only way to get the currency This is through in-game events.

These are marked with large red circles on your minimap and usually involve you killing enemies within a certain amount of time. We encountered a number of events during our time using the beta, with one of which required us to stop an enemy to save a woman hiding under a cart and another to kill a demon to prevent a demonic ritual. After you complete the event, a treasure chest will appear in the middle of the event area. Open the chest, and a large number of Murmuring Obels will appear as loot.
The usual reward is about 20 Murmuring Obels along with Gold, other equipment and weapons. The events themselves don’t last more than a few minutes, so they’re definitely worth completing if you can find them. For more about the new action RPG, don’t miss it Diablo 4 Class Guide.
