That’s not all. It is also called excellent for controlling cholesterol. According to the researchers, “Onion root extract, Allium cepa, strongly reduced high blood sugar (sugar) and total cholesterol levels in diabetic rats when given with the diabetes drug metformin, .”

Researchers gave three groups of rats (with diabetes) three different doses of onion extract. There were three other groups of non-diabetic mice with normal blood sugar levels, for comparison.

It was found that there was a rapid decrease in blood sugar in diabetic rats, along with a decrease in cholesterol levels. One researcher added: “Onions do not contain many calories. “However, it seems to increase metabolic rate and, with that, increase appetite, leading to increased intake.”

The researchers added: “We need to investigate the mechanism by which onions are effective in lowering blood sugar.

Taking this into consideration, we recommend including onions in your daily diet to maintain a healthy lifestyle. However, always consult a professional before adapting to any lifestyle change.
