The study concluded: “In short-term trials, green tea supplementation significantly reduced fasting sugar levels, but had no significant effects on fasting insulin and HbA1c.

“Long-term trials evaluating the impact of green tea supplementation on glycemic control are needed.”

If you are living with type 2 diabetes, the NHS recommends that you:

  • Eat a variety of foods – including fruits, vegetables and some starchy foods like pasta
  • Keep sugar, fat and salt to a minimum
  • Eat breakfast, lunch and dinner every day – don’t skip meals.
