Diabetes: Food 40p significantly controls blood sugar within minutes of eating


Some low GI foods, such as whole grain foods, fruits, vegetables, beans, and lentils, are foods we should eat as part of a healthy, balanced diet.

However, “using the glycemic index to decide whether a food or combination of foods is healthy can be misleading,” the NHS said.

The health agency explains: “High GI foods are not necessarily unhealthy and not all low GI foods are healthy.

“For example, watermelon and beets are high GI foods, while chocolate cake has a lower GI value.”
