DGCA conducted highest ever in a year checks on airlines, airports & other stakeholders in 2022

NEW DELHI: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) says it has taken the highest number of surveillance actions ever in a calendar year in 2022, with 4,378 inspections, of which 3,013 scheduled and 1,365 unplanned. These include safety audits, ramp checks, spot checks, and night surveillance conducted through Thursday (December 22) for airlines, airport operators, organizations designated approval, flight school to check that they are following safety standards.
“We have issued/renewed 17,220 crew licenses through eGCA’s one-stop digital platform. The number of commercial pilot licenses (CPLs) issued during the year was the highest in the past decade at 1,131,” a senior DGCA official said.
The biggest “accomplishment” of this year was the significant leap forward in the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) coordinated validation (or audit) task for India’s DGCA which was conducted last month. 11. “As a result, India’s efficiency performance score increased from 69.95% previously to 85.49%, thereby changing India’s Safety Supervisor rating from 102 to 48 out of 193 signatory country,” the official said.
The leap in safety ratings under the safety watchdog of India’s aviation regulator will make it easier for desi airlines to expand overseas. Both tata corporation‘S Indian Airlines and IndiGo has major international expansion plans. AI has already started increasing flights to Europe and North America by leasing wide-body aircraft. As they have more planes, these airlines will start venturing into new markets because in some places like Africa, Indian airlines have almost no presence despite the demand. The commute is huge thanks to the size of the Indian community there.
In 2022, the regulator issued air operations licenses for Scheduled Air Transport Services to three operators — Aviation SNV (Akasa Air) on July 7; GSEC Monarch and Deccan Aviation (India One Air) in June and Quikjet Cargo Airlines in December. Multiple non-scheduled operations licenses have been issued and new airport permits have been issued to Deoghar, holongi, Jeypore and New Goa (MOPA).
“A new process for auto-populating pilot electronic logs by integrating Aircraft System (ACARS/AIMS/ARMS) data of scheduled airline operators with eGCA has been started. in 2022. In addition to accurately fetching real-time pilot flight hours, with minimal manual intervention, this will help pilots submit applications in time for issuance and renewal. and authenticate the license by eliminating multi-layer data validation steps. IndiGo has already done the same and other scheduled airlines are expected to do so in the next two months,” the official said.
The regulator in 2022 approved 24,213 medical assessments for cabin crew and air traffic controllers. In May 2022, a new flight training organization (FTO) was approved at Jalgaon Airport. The organization has also granted four approvals to begin operations at other operational facilities and three NOCs to establish new FTOs by 2022.
“We issued a Type Certificate to the HINDUSTAN 228 on May 10, 2022. The HINDUSTAN 228 is the first commuter aircraft to be certified by DGCA to meet international airworthiness standards. The aircraft is designed and developed by HAL, with state-of-the-art technology that combines optimal use of composites and conventional materials,” the official said.
