Devon prison officer drops eight stones after flying to Lithuania for £7,000 gastric bypass surgery
A prison guard who once weighed more than 18 stones now looks unrecognizable after she dropped eight after paying thousands for surgery in Lithuania.
Grace Whyte, 35, weighed 18kg at the most and after more than two decades of struggling with her weight, she decided to have a gastrectomy to lose weight.
The mother-of-three from Newton Abbot, Devon says she has been on a diet since the age of 11 because of her binge eating habits.
Ms Whyte underwent surgery in August 2020 and less than a year later in July 2021 she hit her target weight of 10. The procedure involved inserting a surgical stapler, followed by that is used to make a small pouch at the top of the stomach
Out of desperation, she decided to take out a loan of £7,000 for weight loss surgery in Lithuania.
She said: ‘I’ve had problems with food since I was a kid.
‘I was constantly wishing I was someone else and that I would hide food and secretly eat as a coping mechanism.
The prison officer said the surgery was the ‘best thing’ she’s ever done. She said: ‘I’ve always been a very charming person, but I feel like I can’t express it properly and now I can be the person I’ve always wanted to be’
‘With each year I get older, I put another stone. When I was 11, I was 11 years old and by 18 I was 18kg, which was my heaviest weight. ‘
Her weight continued to fluctuate and she ‘spiked up to day 17’ after she lost her father Jim Whyte, 55.
She said: ‘All I wanted was to slim down, but I was stuck in my mind and on the weekends I would eat huge meals even after watching my calories. yourself and exercise throughout the week.

‘So I had enough and considered weight loss surgery. I passed all the checks, got a loan to pay for the £7k procedure in Lithuania, and I got on with it.
‘It was the best thing I did.’
The surgery involves inserting surgical needles, which are then used to create a small pouch at the top of the stomach.
Ms Whyte underwent surgery in August 2020 and less than a year later in July 2021 she hit her goal weight of 10.
However, she insists that surgery is not an easy way out and she has had to persevere to lose weight.

The prison officer can now ‘order whatever she likes and ‘know’ that it will suit her. She said: “I wear crop tops all the time. They’re something I’ve always wished I could wear whenever I see my friends in them and now it’s just amazing to do it myself’
She said: ‘It was harder than I expected but I’m so glad I did.
‘I was in a lot of pain. I don’t want to leave the house because I don’t want to be seen.
‘When I was young and weighed 18kg at the most, I used to be scolded when I was walking on the street.
‘You’re treated very differently when you’re older, which is terrible.
‘I had a lot of aches and pains, and had problems with my knees due to my weight. No matter what, I still can’t stop the urge to get drunk. ‘
Ms Whyte uses food as a way to self-harm, she will ‘shovel in large packages of chocolates, sweets, crisps and cookies’ before making herself sick so she can then eat more than.
She added: ‘On a binge day, I would eat over 4000 calories.
‘It got out of control. I know I already have it in me to be like the guys on the show called My 600lbs Life.
‘After the surgery, my weight started to drop, which was amazing because I was constantly worried that it wouldn’t work for me.
‘It was an uphill battle but as soon as I saw the results I felt so good and as if I was returning to the person I was supposed to be.’
The warden’s diet before surgery consisted of chocolate bars for breakfast, pizza and cake for lunch, and burgers and fries for dinner.
Since her 8th loss, she feels better than she ever did before.
She said: ‘I don’t wear crop tops all the time. They’re something I’ve always wished I could wear whenever I see my friends in them and now it’s amazing to do it myself.
‘I love wearing clothes and bikinis that fit me, and I can put on whatever I like and know it will work for me.
‘I’ve always been a very charming person, but I feel like I can’t express it properly and now I can be the person I’ve always wanted to be.’
