Via Allan Fox: Devin Haney thinks Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis should stay with Mayweather Promotions if he’s not interested in the big fight.
Last week, Tank (26-0, 24 KOs) warned fans on social media that his contract with Mayweather Promotions will end with his next fight with Rolando ‘kt Rolly’ Romero on May 28. 5.
Due to Tank’s comment about his contract expiring soon, there is much speculation about which agency/ad network he will sign with next.
Haney doesn’t see anything that will change for ‘regular’ WBA lightweight champion Gervonta if he doesn’t want to be in the big fights.

If 27-year-old Tank Davis doesn’t want to fight a talented opponent at lightweight, he should stay with Mayweather. They did an excellent job on Tank’s mission, turning him into a big ticketing and engaging PPV.
Haney’s reaction to Tank’s contract situation
“Does not matter; if you don’t want a big fightyou can also stay with the promoter you are with now,” Devin Haney told Fighthype when asked for his thoughts on Gervonta Davis’ contract with Mayweather Promotions expiring in his next fight on May 28.
“If you don’t care about causing big scuffles to happen, what’s the use of even ignoring your circumstances? You can also stay there and be loyal to Floyd [Mayweather Jr] if that’s the case,” said Haney.
It will be interesting if Tank suddenly gets to compete with the biggest competitor if he leaves Mayweather Promotions.
If Gervonta signs with Top Rank, they’ll want him to fight the best of the 135-lb division, which would be a great company to go with if his focus is to have Get the best battles.
The problem with Tank continuing to play safe against lackluster opponents is that he will never become a major superstar and he will reduce his earning potential.
If Tank had more names on his profile now, there’s no doubt he’d be a bigger star than he is right now. That’s the downside of the gentle combo that was done by Mayweather Promotions on behalf of Tank.
While they did an admirable job of keeping him undefeated, they essentially stunted his career by choosing not to compare him to many of the top boxers at 130, 135. and 140.
Assuming Tank Davis leaves Mayweather Promotions, he needs to focus on fighting these guys for the next three years to make up for lost time in his nine-year pro career:

Devin focuses on the Kambosos . war
“I wanted to make all the big fights happen, but it all started with George Kambosos,” Haney said. Right now, it is the king of the light division, and this is for all marbles. That is my main focus,” Devin said.
“How can I see through this war when it gives everything? There is nothing else to collect later. I mean, aside from the name, but for the belt, only six people have done this [become undisputed champion].
“This is important,” Haney said of his preference for beating the Kambosos on June 5 to become the undisputed four-belt champion at lightweight. “I can never look to the past or look forward because this is for everything.
“I don’t want Franchise,” Devin said of his not wanting the Kambosos WBC Franchise 135-lb title he chose to hold after winning it from Teofimo Lopez on Nov.
“This [Kambosos vs. Haney fight] not for the Franchise because I don’t want the Franchise belt, I don’t want the Franchise title. I want to keep the WBC lightweight belt, and I want to collect the rest.
“I want to collect the rest of them and the Franchise; George can have that,” Haney made it clear he didn’t want the Franchise strap after beating the Kambosos.
