Deuces! Deion Sanders Accepts Head Coach Job at University of Colorado
Deion Sandersaka Coach Prime, is officially embarking on a new journey that will take him from Mississippi to Colorado.
The former NFL star in particular left his job as head coach at Jackson State University (JSU) for another opportunity at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder).
The End of an Era at Jackson State University
Coach Prime began serving as head coach of JSU’s football team in 2020 and he has become a sizable influence on campus.
From ensuring the Southwest Sports Festival back to back (SWAC) title to continuously highlight the above group social mediaDeion made it through and really helped JSU shine.
In addition, Deion was a big voice in the Jackson water crisis, as Shade room previous report. His efforts even go as far as donating half of my salary to help complete a new soccer facility.
Deion Sanders has made strides as an advocate for HBCU athletes
In addition to his work with the JSU soccer team, Deion has proven himself to be an advocate for athletes at HBCUs across the country.
Back in 2021, he blew away NFL for not selecting any HBCU athletes during the draft and he recently spoke about how HBCU sports should be open to people when speaking to FanNation.
“We should open our minds and hearts to people and show them love, respect and appreciation. I feel that’s what we should do with HBCUs. We must open our hearts and minds to embrace change – embrace different ideologies and different thoughts, and take those thoughts and make them come true.”
Twitter has mixed feelings about the news
Given that Deion Sanders has done so much for JSU and the larger HBCU community, his move to CU Boulder is certainly big news and it has sparked a flurry of responses online.
Admittedly, there are some who feel as if Deion should stay at Mississippi HBCU rather than embark on Colorado PWI.

Usually I’m happy about this, but the black community has such a terrible brain drain problem, it’s ridiculous. Our best and brightest never do it for our sake – we’re always looking for ways to allow the next team to tap into their talent in exchange for a bag. https://t.co/75YNk8bbzt

The departure of Deion Sanders made me reflect on Du Bois’ green blueprint for growing our community through cooperative values and collectivism, not self-interest. We need people focused on using their gifts for the LONG-TERM growth of self-determined communities & organizations.

However, this sentiment has been largely drowned out by those familiar with the Prime Coach’s career move, especially considering the reports surrounding the pay disparity.
Wait, so Deion Sanders salary is $1.2 million for 4 years, that’s $300k a year and he gave half of it to improve the facilities… And people went crazy when he gets $5 million a year on $300k. Farewell. pic.twitter.com/ixmjJH9TSR

The same people angry with Deion would leave their jobs for an extra $6.. can’t take people seriously. https://t.co/fhNHdQbTpl

It is also pointed out that Deion has done a lot for the Jackson State, and he cannot stay there forever.
Everyone is crazy about Deion Sanders. He helped JSU, set attendance records, new training ground, new locker rooms, Under Armor endorsement deal. Countless other things. You leave the better places you find it. He did that. He has done a lot for HBCU Football in 3 years.

Honestly the pressure shouldn’t be on @DeionSanders to stay in Jackson State.
Another famous black former NFL/College player will succeed him.
Bring the torch. 🔥
Deion stepped up and trained for 3 years. He started the trend.
Next person?

People also shared that they had “mixed feelings” about Coach Prime leaving, as—while they were happy for him—they were sad to see him leave JSU.
You may have mixed feelings about Deion. We might be sad to see him leave JSU because it feels so special to what he’s doing at HBCU. We can also be glad to see him get a big opportunity that coaches of color don’t often get. No need to choose one side…both can be right

Mixed feelings about Deion going to Colorado.
Everyone in our community needs to LEARN the importance of UNITY and SUPPORT (💰📈). COMPENSATION to the COMPETITORs in our community. No one wants to give value without getting it back, let’s be honest!
Congratulations Deion🤝🏾

Overall, however, most Twitter users seem to be on Deion’s side.

I don’t talk to anyone who hasn’t graduated from black college about Deion Sanders leaving Jackson State for Colorado because, when it comes to HBCUs, you don’t have an opinion that I want to hear and I totally agree. mean with saying. LOLOL

Thanks to Coach Prime for all he’s done, and we wish him the best of luck at CU Boulder.
