Frankie Dettori will go on Saturday in a race in Saudi Arabia named in honor of Prince Khalid Abdullah, founder of the Juddmonte breeding and racing empire, who passed away on January 12.

Dettori rode Khalid Abdullah Enable (GB)’s thoroughbred mare (Nathaniel {Ire}) in all two of her 19 races for trainer John Gosden, for two wins in the G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, three wins in G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth S., wins at Epsom, Irish and Yorkshire Oaks’, G1 Coral-Eclipse and GI Breeders’ Cup Turf.

Dettori said: “Prince Khalid has done incredible things for equestrian sport and is delighted to be participating in the race that bears his name. “He will never be forgotten, and I will forever be grateful for all the opportunities I gave him to drive for him, especially Enable, who gave us all the memories. Such an amazing concept.”

Dettori added: “I have been driving in Saudi Arabia for many years and the racing schedule there is strong. “Of course, there will be a meeting at the Saudi Arabian Cup next month, but having better races with top prize money throughout the winter makes it an attractive option for drivers. Europe. The turf is top class, and the turf is beautiful. It’s fresh every year, you really can’t go wrong.

Dettori will be participating in the Recovery Run (GB) formerly trained by Andrew Balding (Nathaniel {Ire}), who won Ascot handicap four stages last summer and is now coached by Allan Smith for Al Adiyat Racing.

“Saturday’s Prince Khalid Bin Abdullah Cup looks to be an interesting race, with lots of familiar names in it like My Frankel and Fabilis,” said Dettori. “I remember I rode the Crossed Baton to win the Derby Trial at Epsom a few years ago and he was left with only John. [Gosden]was last year, so he’s interesting too. As for my horse, Recovery Run, it won its last start with 21 races, so I like to think it has a good chance. ”

Silvestre de Sousa will be teaming up with former runner-up Khalid Abdullah Fabilis in the Prince Khalid Bin Abdullah Cup, and he said, “It’s been an honor to ask and I look forward to spending time there. The race was of good quality and everyone was very welcoming. ”
