The Cleveland Browns are preparing as if Deshaun Watson will play for them even though he is expected to be suspended.
The Browns on Wednesday announced that Watson will begin Friday’s pre-season game at the Jacksonville Jaguars. This will mark Watson’s first game action (pre-or-casual) with the Browns since they acquired him in a trade with the Houston Texans.
While Watson may get some showtime game experience with his new team, it could be a while before he sees the field in a regular-season competition.
Watson is suspended and is awaiting a decision from the federation on his fate.
The NFL’s disciplinary officer suspended Watson for six games in accordance with the league’s individual conduct policy. The federation appealed the decision and is said to be seeking a suspension lasting at least a yearplus fines.
Friday’s pre-season game could give Browns fans a glimpse of what they can expect once Watson is allowed to play.
