Via Charles Brun: Derek Chisora and Kubrat Pulev talked rubbish in the face of Matchroom boxing promoter Eddie Hearn to discuss their rematch on July 9 at the O2 Arena in London.
Two-time world heavyweight title challenger Pulev (29-2, 14 KOs) let 38-year-old cruiser Chisora (32-12, 23 KOs) know he was using him as a stepping stone to reach another crack at a world title.
Pulev is no longer ranked in the top 15 by any sanctioning body after his loss to Anthony Joshua in 2020. I don’t want to say it but it will take more than a win over Chisora to give Pulev a Rank high enough to challenge a world title.
This rematch was pointless as Pulev had clearly beaten Chisora six years ago, and there was no need for a second fight other than for business purposes.
Chisora has not won a game in three years since 2019 and he is coming off one of his worst performances in ages in a decisive 12-round one-way loss at the hands of Joseph Parker.
Derek looked like an old man who needed a good couch to rest in that fight, and the only reason he wasn’t disqualified was Parker’s lack of killer guts.
