Derby Preps . Winter Stake Schedule Highlights

The trio preparing for the GI Kentucky Derby highlights Aqueduct’s 2023 winter meet-up stake schedule, released by the NYRA on Wednesday. The 44-day Winter Meetup, which begins January 1 and runs through March 26, will offer a total of 25 $3.2 million staked races. The live race will run from Thursday to Sunday until February 12, and will move to a Friday to Sunday schedule from February 17 until the end of the meeting.
The betting action kicks off on opening day with a prep for the first Derby, a $150,000 Jerome S. offering 10 qualifying points for the winner. The next Derby Qualifier will be the GIII Withers S. 20 points, worth $250,000, on February 4, and the third round of the GIII Gotham S. $300,000, worth 50 points, to be held on the 4th of May. 3.
The winter meet also includes two prep races for the GI Kentucky Oaks, starting with the $100,000 Busanda S., a 20-point qualifying race. The other is a Busher S. $200,000 on March 4, worth 50 qualifying points.
The first classification race will be the $150,000 GIII Toboggan S. January 28 and the final categorization event taking place on Gotham Day, GIII Tom Fool H.
Aqueduct will host a special Presidents Day card on Monday, February 20th, which will be marked with a $100,000 Haynesfield S. for older men in New York.
The final weekend of the winter meet-up will feature a $100,000 East View S. Cross-bred sophomore in New York on March 24, followed by New York Champion Announcement Day on Saturday, March 25 with six kickoff events bringing in a total of $380,000.
