Deontay Wilder vs Andy Ruiz Almost reached an agreement but clash date causes problems
According to reports, Deontay Wilder could face Andy Ruiz Jr next, but not in the expected time frame.
The WBC has officially ordered a match between the pair – their number one and number two contenders respectively – in November 2022. The winner will be the first in line to fight for the title. Tyson Fury.
Since then, however, Wilder’s side has hinted they are waiting for a ‘bigger’ fight and negotiations have clearly not progressed very far.
GAME‘ Mike Coppinger says he’s still looking forward to the match despite recent developments and that PBC is currently in the process of choosing a date and venue.
It’s complicated by another box office event on their calendar – Errol Spence Jr vs Keith Thurman.
“They are looking at a website. I heard it could be the Middle East, but Al Haymon controls both of them so that would be a surprise. I thought it was going to land in the US, and last time I heard they were considering May, but now I know Spence and Thurman are leaving in May.
Of course, you can’t do two pay-per-views in the same month. So I’m not sure when and where the match will be, but it’s a fight I’m definitely looking forward to.”

May is definitely at the bottom of the ladder compared to what fans expect as Ruiz came out in September against Luis Ortiz and Wilder in October with a win over Robert Helenius. The two former champions – with their future title aspirations – really should be busier, especially when a fight like this is laid out on the plate.
As the boxing schedule really started to take shape, however, the Wilder-Ruiz bout was one of the best matches fans could ask for based on their circumstances and the background of the rest. back of the tournament.
With battles included Joe Joyce vs. Zhilei ZhangWith the return of Anthony Joshua and of course the undisputed fight between Fury and Oleksandr Usyk coming up, 2023 is looking promising for the heavyweight arena.
