Deontay Wilder says fans want knockouts, not titles from him

Via Charles Brun: Deontay Wilder says his fans don’t come to see him fight for the world championship belt because they want to see him take down his opponents, not win useless cheap belts have lost the meaning they once had in this day and age.

The title is now meaningless to former WBC heavyweight champion ‘Bronze Bomber’ Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs) because that’s not why people flock to see him compete at this stage of his career.

With boring champions like Tyson Fury, with his ugly fighting style, one can understand why fans would love to watch an entertaining boxer like Wilder. While the die-hard boxing fan might be interested in the titles, the average person doesn’t. Thus you have all the fans who want to watch the boxers on Youtube not fighting for the title but just to entertain their many followers.

Deontay = Heavyweight star

After all, this is the entertainment business and the one-punch artist Deontay has a fan-friendly style, a world more fun to watch than the punchy, grab and tilt fighting style. Fury’s fear.

It doesn’t matter that Wilder doesn’t keep one of the belts because the belt has lost its value because large quantities are continuously produced by sanctioning authorities.

Like other superstars like Canelo Alvarez & Floyd Mayweather Jr, Wilder has now gone beyond titles and no longer needs them to capture the interest of the boxing world.

One big reason, of course, is how the four major regulators have contaminate the weight classes by flooding them with their many titles, like fishing nets to bring penalty fees.

When you sort out the left and right champions in multiple divisions, you can blame the fans for losing interest in belt holders and focus instead on entertaining fighters, like Deontay Wilder?

If the bout comes next and Wilder wins, then a notable fourth fight with old nemesis Fury could take place – provided the ‘King Gypsy’ retains the title at the time.

Fans don’t care about titles

“They want to see me against everyone,” Deontay Wilder told NEWS. “People don’t come to see me for the title and the like; That’s not for me. People come to see me knocking people down. I don’t need a title or belt; People come and see me for what I do.

“That’s why you don’t see people booing when nothing’s going to happen, because they know it’s coming,” Wilder said.

Let me clarify this. The reason fans boo the boxers is because it’s too boring to watch, especially the ugly ones and the fugitives.

“What do I always say? You don’t know when it will come – but it will. And when it comes, bam, baby! Good night,” Wilder said of his knockouts.
