Deontay Wilder on Anthony Joshua: ‘They Made Him’

Via Charles Brun: Deontay Wilder says he believes Anthony Joshua was made by his promoters, and that he was not born to be a champion.

Wilder says Joshua’s manager “bought” his belt, and as a result he was not ready for the moment when he finally started fighting quality opponents.

Former WBC heavyweight champion Wilder’s comment about Joshua at Matchroom buying his belt is similar to what some boxing fans say about AJ.

From the outset, they believe AJ’s promoter Eddie cleverly maneuvered him to grab belts he wouldn’t otherwise have if he fought someone good.

For example, they paved the way for Joshua to claim his first belt against the vulnerable IBF champion Charles Martin by offering him a handsome sum to go to the UK to fight AJ.

When Joshua vs Former IBF/WBA/WBO . Champion Wladimir Klitschko in 2017, he caught him when he was 40, after a year of layoffs and defeat to Tyson.

Some fans believe that the only reason Klitschko fought Joshua was because of the big payday. In other words, it’s a fight Joshua wouldn’t have had if his name was ‘Joe Blow’ and wasn’t well-connected.

“They created Anthony Joshua. They created him. We were born to do it, not made. Even the Olympics, they gave him that [gold] medals,” Deontay Wilder told Last standing podcast.

Wilder’s comment on the 2012 London Olympics was Joshua’s questionable victory over Italy’s Roberto Cammarelle. Many fans considered it a robbery, as Cammarelle showed up to beat Joshua at that Olympics, and so did Cuba’s Erislandy Savon. In addition, Zhilei Zhang and Ivan Dychko fought Joshua to a stalemate.

They bought a lot of belts. The way they move him and prepare him for certain moments, he’s not ready for that.”

“I am willing and able for everyone. I still want to hit that**,” Wilder said when asked if he wanted to fight Joshua.

“I’m not going to rob the fans of letting that fight happen. I definitely want that fight to happen. I just want to know if they are real or not. “

If Joshua loses to Tyson Fury in the proposed fight on December 3, Wilder might as well forget to try to fight him as AJ is likely to retire.

Even if Joshua hadn’t hung up his gloves, a fight against Wilder at that time would not have been as big as it is now.
