Deontay Wilder named “heaviest heavyweight on the planet”
Deontay Wilder gives some unlikely credit to an old foe as he prepares to return to the ring on October 15.
The knockout artist is training to face Robert Helenius next month. This will be his first battle in more than a year, with him set to return with the possibility of retirement in the meantime.
Before he tries to re-enter the world title picture, he sat down with SHOWTIME Sport’s The Last Stand to answer some quick questions.
When asked “Usyk, Tyson Fury – Who is the heaviest walker on the planet right now?”, Wilder chose his old opponent.
“I’ll go with Fury.”
Take out his hatred towards British boxers, both past and present, surprising credit. When asked about the possibility of facing ‘The Gypsy King’ for the fourth time, Wilder was optimistic.
“Most definitely. As long as he’s in business and I’m in business it’s inevitable. Unless she or I don’t want to. Or if he can’t be allowed to go somewhere, because there’s a lot going on with him right now – I don’t want to discuss it, it’s none of my business. Of course, if he’s in business and can get into it.”
Wilder and Fury already have a trilogy in the books. Both men beat the other, however only Fury was able to finish the job. He won the second and third by stopping after the draw in the first.
If he wants another hit on Fury, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ has to get to Helenius first – not an easy night for any heavyweight. Should he do the same, he is rumored to be in conjunction with PBC’s steady friend, Andy Ruiz Jr.
