Denbury’s Burial Carbon Charm – WSJ

Today’s energy companies can attract investors in one of two ways: Come up with a great low-carbon idea or generate a pile of cash. Denbury may be one of the few that manage to tick both boxes.

Since 1999, Denbury has specialized in so-called tertiary oil recovery, which occurs after other producers run out of wells due to internal pressure and some additional effort – such as pumping water. Denbury recovers the last drops of oil from those wells by injecting carbon dioxide. It is the only publicly listed company that primarily uses this method, which is inherently less risky because Denbury is producing from discovered wells.
