Dementia: Brisk walking cuts risk by more than 50%, study finds


According to the researchers, a brisk walk of 3,800 to 9,800 steps is ideal for reducing the risk of dementia.

The study found that participants between the ages of 40 and 79 who walked 9,826 steps a day had a 50% lower risk of developing dementia within seven years.

The researchers also found that people who walked purposefully, at 40 steps per minute, were actually able to reap the most benefits with just 6,315 steps. These people can reduce their risk of dementia by up to 57%.

People who walked 3,800 steps a day reduced their risk of dementia by 25%.
