Demand for electric cars pushes Lithium prices to a record

Rising lithium prices are intensifying a race among automakers to lock in supplies and stoking fears that a shortage of the battery metal could slow electric vehicle adoption.

The price of Lithium carbonate in China, the benchmark in the fast-growing market, stands at around $71,000 per ton, according to rating firm Benchmark Mineral Intelligence.
