DeLorean teases all-new electric sports car and confirms August reveal

DeLorean is planning a comeback and is about to have a new one electricity performance car, will be revealed at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 18.

Newly released images of the car’s rear end suggest that it will take on a new design inspired by the brand’s iconic DMC-12, rather than a complete modernization. of that vehicle.

The new DeLorean will adopt a two-tone body finish with a sloping roofline and horizontal slats along the rear windows – a small highlight for the DMC-12. A thin LED light bar will stretch across the rear and form a pair of muscular humps that protrude above the rear wheels, and DeLorean hasn’t followed the digital door mirror industry trend, instead fitting a set of bar widgets. flakes, normally. Elsewhere, there appears to be a deep rear diffuser and a DeLorean nameplate below the left taillights.

DeLorean previously released the teaser video below on Twitter and YouTube to announce the arrival of the new EV, which the company is developing with Italdesign – the stylist that created the original DMC-12.

Speaking about the partnership with Italdesign, DeLorean marketing director Troy Beetz said: “We are delighted that the next evolution of the DeLorean brand will be represented by our longstanding partnership. us with Italdesign and a car that will represent our vision for the future.”

From the introductory video, it is clear that the overall shape of the new model will be inspired by the DMC-12, with a similar windshield shape, elongated bonnet and winged doors for the silver screen emblem. . At the front, there’s a new DeLorean badging that runs the width of the car, along with a pair of narrow headlights.

DeLorean’s first and only model to date is equipped with a 2.8-liter V6 engine that produces 130 horsepower and 207 Nm of torque. And, while the details of the new car’s powertrain are yet to be confirmed, it will be all-electric.

The original DeLorean DMC-12 was made famous in the 1980s sci-fi series, Back to the Future. However, while the car became a big-screen legend, the company that built it went down in history, just a few years into the car’s production following a series of financial problems and production difficulties.

DeLorean (at least a nameplate) recently got her feet back thanks to Stephen Wynne. Back in 1995, he bought back the rights, trademarks, and inventory of the remaining parts for the company and founded a new private company with headquarters in Texas with the purpose of supporting the network of owners.
