Delhi plans to accelerate the process to increase the electric vehicle charging network in a bid to improve the electric vehicle infrastructure in the national capital. The Delhi-NCR region will soon add another 100 electric vehicle charging stations to its tally. Arvind Kejriwal, Premier of Delhi, said on Tuesday that the new electric vehicle charging stations will be operational across the city in the next two months. He made this announcement while inaugurating 11 electric vehicle charging stations in Delhi today.

Kejriwal also said that the new EV charging stations will also include battery swap points for electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers. Kejriwal added: “Previously, the battery swap points and charging stations were different but they were lumped together. These 11 stations have 73 charging points. In the next two months, Delhi will have 100 charging stations.”

Delhi is considered the electric vehicle capital of the country with nearly 10% of all vehicles sold this year being electric. The state government launched the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy two years ago and aims to put at least one EV for every four vehicles on the road by 2024.

With a clear focus on increasing tram penetration, the state government has also focused on improving tram infrastructure in the Delhi-NCR region. Earlier this month, the state government announced that it had set up 1,000 electric vehicle charging points in less than a year under its single-window facility. Of the 1,000 EV charging points, 682 are installed by BRPL at 315 locations, 150 are installed by BYPL at 70 locations, and 168 are installed by TPDDL at 50 locations.

The government is also planning to set up 18,000 toll collection points across the city over the next three years. Among these will be 5,000 kerbside electric vehicle (EV) charging points on all major roads in the city. Kerbside charging will provide convenient options for priority segment vehicles including two-wheelers and three-wheelers, and will also play an important role for neighborhoods lacking designated parking. determined.
