Delhi holds classic car rally ahead of G20 Summit


Up to 50 selected vintage cars and 23 vintage motorbikes raced through the streets of the national capital as part of a vintage car driving program organized by the city government ahead of the Summit G20. Called ‘Classic for Life – G20 Classic Driving’, the antique car rally was flagged by Deputy Governor VK Saxena of Delhi departing from the National Stadium.

The event culminated at the Delhi Gymkhana Club and was organized by the city’s transport department in conjunction with the Heritage Driving Club of India (HMCI). The event saw cars and bicycles from the 1920s to 1970s. The oldest car taking part in the rally was a 1928 model while the least old one was from the 1970s.

Classic 1928 cars include the Rolls-Royce Phantom I and the Model A Ford. Some of the other rare cars participating in the event include models from Rolls-Royces, Bentleys, Cadillacs, Lincolns, Packards, Bugatti, Buicks, Alfa Romeo, Fiats, Triumphs, Singers, Peugeots, Mercedes and Mustangs, among others. other car models.

The event is attended by many company leaders and classic car collectors from around the country, with the aim of showcasing the automotive and industrial heritage to the public. “Classic cars are symbols of our culture and industrial heritage and we must strive to preserve them for future generations,” LG said.

The event also highlights India’s presidency in the G20 Summit and helps spread the message of reviving vintage vehicles. “It was nice to see so many vintage enthusiasts from Indian companies coming together to promote the message of sustainability,” LG added.

The event was also attended by many Delhi government officials such as Amitabh Kant, Sherpa G20, along with Chief Secretary of Delhi, Naresh Kumar, Awini Ambuj Shankar, Founding Member of HMCI and other senior officials.
