Delhi Announces New Electric Vehicle Action Plan, Targets To Install One Public Charging Point for 15 Electric Vehicles by 2024


The Delhi government has updated its electric vehicle agenda by announcing that it will install at least one public charging point for every 15 EVs by 2024. These charging points will be accessible within 3 km from any place in Delhi. The government has released a new three-year ‘action plan’ for electric vehicles to 2025, on the occasion of the second anniversary of the Electric Vehicle Policy, which was first introduced in 2020. The plans are in line with The Delhi government’s goal is to turn the country’s capital into one of the world’s most ‘Lightweight Tram’-friendly cities.

Follow new plan Announced by the Delhi government under the ‘Charging/Swap Infrastructure Action Plan for 2022-25’, the union territory will install around 18,000 public and semi-public EV charging points by 2024.

Currently, Delhi has around 2,452 charging points and 234 swap stations in operation. While 594 charging points have been installed using the single window mechanism, 896 charging points are in the process of being installed.

The document also mentions that the government is planning to target 25% of all new vehicle registrations under EV Policy by 2024. Rapid electric vehicle adoption in Delhi is expected to lead to an increase in the number of charging points across the union territory.

According to documents shared by the government, battery swapping is seen as a possible solution for electric two- and three-wheelers, allowing customers to purchase a EV do not have the batterysignificantly reduce the cost of EVs.
