Del MarBing’s Bing Crosby Season, America’s premier late-fall racing offering, will feature the richest staking schedule in its nine-year history with 13 major stake races — nine of which count. points — and two overnight events worth a total of $2.45 million. The season begins on Friday, November 11 and runs through Sunday, December 4.
Topping the list for the 13-day Crosby session was a pair of tier 1 offerings at the end of the weekend, each carrying a $400,000 enhanced wallet — the 3-year-old Hollywood Derby at 1/8 on the field on December 3 and the Matriarch Stakes for the older mares and fillings one mile on the turf on December 4.
Also of note in the stake program is a $50,000 increase in purse for a pair of tests, one on grass for the filling and mares, the other open to all. The first is $150,000 Red Carpet Stakes (G3T) at one mile and three-eighths of the lawn scheduled for Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 24. The latter is $150,000 Native Diver Stakes (G3). ) in nine sections of feathers on the main track on Sunday, November 27.
Additionally, on December 3, Del Mar will present the first of its $100,000 Stormy Liberal Stakes tournament at five grass courts for kids ages 3 and up. Freedom storm , of course, is the claimant that coach Peter Miller and Rockingham Ranch owners and David Bernsen became two-time Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1T) winners (including 2017 at Del Mar) ) and earned more than $2.2 million. Stormy Liberal is one of 10 grass stakes provided in the stands.
The meetup introduces racing three days a week — Friday through Sunday — with the exception of Thanksgiving when the race is held Thursday through Sunday. The first post of the day will be 12:30 pm with the special case starting at 11 am for the Thanksgiving card.
One pair of overnight stakes — $75,000 each — enjoy the season of rolling with Let It Ride Stakes for 3-year-olds at a mile on November 11, followed by Kathryn Crosby Stakes for girls and the older mare, also a mile on the turf, just behind her on Saturday, November 12.
Other major offerings include the $250,000 Hollywood Turf Cup (G2T) for kids 3 years and older at a mile and a half on the lawn on November 25, and the $250,000 Seabiscuit Handicap (G2T) prize. la, also for kids 3 and up, at a mile and sixteen on grass on November 26.
The track’s large turf pitches throughout the stands have proven to be suitable bets for horses from around the country in the past and that is not expected to change this year. The final two weeks of the season offer eight turf-classified stakes worth more than $1.4 million.
