Del Mar records strong profits on board

The first half of Del Mar’s 83rd summer has been marked by safe, full-court racing and a significant increase in bets and entry on the right track.

Powered by a California record wallet of more than $800,000 per day, field sizes have averaged 9.90 for grass races and 8.83 for main track events. Together, they combined for a national lead of 9.30 horses per competition, well above last year’s average of 8.45. During the first 15 days of summer, total bets were $297,044,168 with a daily average of $19,802,945, up 6.7% from 2021. Bets are tracking was $25,580,826 representing a 12.7% increase over last year’s figures. Out-of-state enrollment was $152,542,303, an 8.2% increase from 2021.

Total on-time attendance was 155,917 over the course of 15 days, a significant 24% increase from last year for the same time period.

“After four weeks, we couldn’t be more pleased with our results,” said Tom Robbins, Del Mar’s Executive Vice President of Racing. “The participation of riders and women has been outstanding as we continue to strive to present safe and competitive racing at the highest level. We hope all the efforts of the stakeholders have resulted in greater customer satisfaction and appreciation. “
