Via Jim Calfa: DAZN is happy with the fight between George Kambosos Jr. and Devin Haney, said Eddie Hearn.
Matchroom Boxing promoter Hearn says he’s not sure who told the IBF/WBA/WBC Franchise/WBO lightweight champion Kambosos Jr. about DAZN’s unwillingness to support Haney with money for a unified war between them.
Hearn says they have a deal with DAZN to take the fight to Kambosos, and Haney is ready to board a plane to fly to Australia. Rumor has it that Haney is not a big draw for DAZN and that they prefer to go with the famous 23-year-old Ryan Garcia, a proven entity.
It is believed the Kambosos (20-0, 13 KOs) could face Ryan Garcia after an April 9 equalizer against Emmanuel Tagoe in San Antonio, Texas.
Kambosos, 28, and his promoter Lou DiBella dragged the situation out to choose an opponent for his next bout. Many fans feel that Kambosos lacks confidence and is looking to cash in on the battle with the highest bidder.
Heard DAZN is satisfied with Kambosos-Haney
“I love George Kambosos. I don’t want to find holes in what he’s saying, but someone isn’t telling the truth to Kambosos,” Hearn said. iFL TV reacting to Kambosos’ comments on social media about DAZN not liking Devin Haney because of him.
“DAZN is very, very happy that Kambosos is up against Haney,“Hearn continued. “They are also very happy for Kambosos against Ryan Garcia. He is a big draw. We talked to DAZN.
“There is an agreement in place to try and make this happen [Kambosos vs. Haney]. We have a proposed written agreement to Lou DiBella and the team of George Kambosos. We do not receive anything in writing.
“Devin Haney is ready to go, and I hope George sees this. I love George, I love Jim, and I love the team. Devin Haney is ready to get on the plane and make the fight undisputed,” Hearn said.
“There is no money problem; no vaccine problem, nothing at all. He [Haney] will fight. Don’t worry about people who might be in the war in August or September or might not even be fighting at that time,” Hearn said.
Perhaps DAZN is happy with Haney, as Hearn says, but they may also be looking to move in the direction of a larger fight involving Ryan Garcia.
Fighting Lomachenko undisputed
“Make the undisputed war,‘ said an agitated-looking Hearn. “I always say this. Someone is talking to him [Kambosos] wrong things.
“It confused us because Bill Haney texted me and went, ‘What is he talking about?‘We are talking to DAZN. The money is there; it’s not a problem, so let’s fight.
“I don’t know. It was just weird. It was like, I understand Ryan Garcia was a big draw, and maybe DAZN liked that fight better. But believe me, DAZN made an offer for the fight. with Haney and a structure for that fight to work, and Devin was ready to board.
“So you want to be uncontroversial, fight,” Hearn said as he sent a text message to Kambosos for him to confront Haney. “Don’t worry about Devin doing somersaults. Devin would never turn anyone down; he will fight all of them.
“So hopefully, George sees this. Let’s get it done. He deserves his big moment. George is currently a 135 year old guy. That’s why Devin was prepared to take risks, take chances and fly to Australia to fight.
“Well, he can fight Lomachenko, but the fights undisputed will overcome that fight. So really, I think his choice of playing against Lomachenko or against Devin Haney is undisputed. We’ll see what he does,” Hearn said.
Unquestionably only matters if the Kambosos appreciate the match in a potentially more important match involving Ryan Garcia or Vasily Lomachenko.
The super boxer is more interested in the undisputed 135 lb championship than the casual fans who are in the dark about it. Casual fans want to see the best possible battle involving Kambosos, who isn’t a household name in the US
What makes Ryan Garcia a great choice for Kambosos and DAZN is his 8.7 million Instagram followers.
Haney can’t compete with the kind of numbers Ryan can bring to the fight against the Kambosos.
