DAZN content is crap and I suspect Eddie Hearn is embarrassed
Simon Jordan, a radio personality turned entrepreneur, has stated his belief that sports streaming service DAZN is not delivering quality content to their subscribers.
Jordan made a fortune in the 1990s, building a ‘Pocket Phone Store’ from scratch, before selling his business for £75m in 2000. Jordan then ventured into the world of sports , bought Crystal Palace Football Club, a story he told. in the book ‘Be careful what you wish’.
Now, Jordan regularly participates in TalkSport and tends to talk about everything related to football and boxing.
in one Recent Q&A on YouTube TalkSportJordan was asked for his opinion on DAZN, who is again at a significant financial loss in 2021.
“I think the whole thing, in its original format, as another opportunity to deliver boxing, is a good thing.”
“DAZN for me, as a model and concept, has value and substance behind it, because; A, the person sponsoring it made more money than God, and B, boxing with another portal, another opportunity to reach an audience, is, in my opinion, something useful. The problem is their content is crap.”
Jordan went on to admit that DAZN shouldn’t be too worried about making a profit in the early years of their streaming business.
“Twitter never turned into a coin, but it was sold for 45 billion to Elon Musk. It’s about influence, about number of subscribers, about building a business model that can take a while to achieve.
The problem, from DAZN’s point of view, is that the content they’re providing isn’t good enough. With not enough fights done, their golden goose is playing hide and seek with himself, Anthony Joshua, trying to figure out who and when he will fight. To me, all of that sounds like a declining proposition.
The controversial radio personality called DAZN a ‘festival of snoozes’ which he suspects must have confounded Eddie Hearn.
“When you look at it through the big fights and you see it as a platform, there’s not a lot going on, there’s not a lot of new content and you look at it and say ‘he’s a parasite’.
Given the guaranteed interest that boxing appeals to audiences everywhere, it’s a bit disappointing, for Eddie Hearn, I suspect it’s a bit disconcerting.
As DAZN and Matchroom continue their efforts to conquer more territories, a report from Sport Business reveals that the company lost $1.36 billion in 2021.
