Resident will celebrate its 100th episode on October 25th, with the cast Manish Dayal great rehearsal director. HollywoodLife spoke EXCLUSIVELY with Manish before the episode aired about this pivotal moment in the long-running medical drama.
Manish revealed that he didn’t ask to direct the show’s 100th episode. “It just fell into place this way,” he said. “I think it all makes perfect sense because this is a huge episode for us and a real culmination in the journey of a lot of people, especially Kit and Bell. As we all know, they will get married in this episode. Their journey goes in a full circle. I think it’s the perfect and amazing 100th episode. “
Cast note that there was an “energy of excitement” on set when filming and directing the episode. “There’s no doubt because I think everyone knows it’s an important milestone for us, and nobody expected to be able to achieve this,” he admitted. “So to be able to shoot that, to be in it, definitely created a fun energy on set. I think everyone is super interested in it and excited about enhancing the material as much as possible. It was just a great experience. Everyone galvanizes together. “
Kit and bell will get married in the 100th episode, but Manish teased that they will go through “a lot of twists” to get to a happy ending. “Problems are happening every five seconds. That’s the nature of the show and also the nature of our very busy characters who are being pulled in a million different directions. Manish continued, “I think Bell, in particular, has several ticking clocks throughout the episode he’s dealing with. Of course, he has to get to church on time. But in addition, he is involved in a very precarious surgery with a young girl who is deaf but also needs a liver transplant. To perform the liver transplant, they had to operate on her mother, who would likely be a donor. There were a lot of problems with this transplant because the mother was also in a state of fatigue, so it involved bringing in other doctors. A lot of people get caught up in the story because both patients ask for everyone’s expertise.”
Reaching 100 episodes in this day and age is quite an achievement. Manish reflects on what Resident has come to him for the past 6 seasons.
“The show is a huge part of my life. Started the Devon program basically as a medical student, and now he’s a clinical researcher. I think that illustrates the tremendous journey he’s been through as a doctor, along with everyone in the cast,” Manish said. “Each character has had a huge journey in these 100+ episodes. There are some ups and downs and some big life changes for everyone. I think that’s the meaning of 100 episodes. It just shows you that where the characters are in the 100th episode it’s barely recognizable who they were in the first episode. I think that says a lot about a strong arc and a show that really takes audiences in different directions. “
He added, “And then you think about our writers and creators, Amy Holden Jonesshowrunner Andrew Chapmanand the enormous task required of doing 100 volumes, writing 100 volumes, 100 stories and how many arcs, that’s a huge feat that I think they accomplished brilliantly. “
Looking beyond the 100th episode, Manish revealed what lies ahead for Devon and Leela. “Their personal lives are almost hidden for a bit. I think they have a stable relationship, not too much of a challenge at the moment but maybe later on they will start to understand their needs and what they want as human beings. , ” said Manish HollywoodLife. “I know Devon definitely wants kids and Leela doesn’t, so I think that could become a point of conflict between the two of them. But really, they are deciding what their future will look like. In the end, they love each other very much, but they are very different people. They want different things. That might mean a lot in their future, but they definitely support each other. They respect each other as doctors. They are finally taking root together. “
