David Benavidez, Caleb Plant gain weight, throw more shots

David Benavidez and Caleb Plant on Friday put on weight for their 168-pound pay-per-view match on Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and took a last chance to trade trash .

Benavidez hit 166.8 pounds, 1.2 below the division limit. The tree weighs 167.2.

Their compulsive stare didn’t last long but it was dramatic. They were jaw-dropping when Plant stuck a finger in his opponent’s face, causing Benavidez to push Plant backwards.

At that point, the staff on the stage stepped in between the boxers and separated them.

Plant said sarcastically in the interview: “We just exchanged pleasures, telling each other how much we liked each other. “He talked a lot, said how much he was going to spank my ass and this and that.

“We’ll see tomorrow. You know what’s going on.”

Benavidez then interjected something from across the stage. Plant (22-1, 13 KOs) replied, “Shut up.”

Benavidez said: “He tried to put his finger on my face. “I had to push his ass back. But he knows what’s going on. When he [handlers] had to lift him off the ground when he was bleeding profusely….

“We are ready for tomorrow, 100% ready.”

Benavidez (26-0.23 KOs) was asked about coming under the division limit.

He speaks for himself, he said. “I’ve been putting on weight all week. And I’m ready. I’m ready to take this mother’s head.

The weights for other matches on the pay-per-view portion of the card are as follows:

  • Jesus Ramos (153.2) versus Joey Spencer (153.2), junior middleweight.
  • Jose Valenzuela (134.0) vs Chris Colbert (134-6), lightweight.
  • Cody Crowley (145.2) versus Abel Ramos (146.0), welder weight class.
