MANILA, Philippines — Dante Alinsunurin is no longer in charge of the Philippines men’s volleyball team after he was sacked as head coach.

Alinsunurin, who successfully directed the national men’s team historical silver medal during the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, it was revealed that the Philippine National League had decided to dismiss him from his position due to his commitment to many teams such as Choco Mucho in the Volleyball Premier League. and National University Bulldogs in UAAP.

(The team manager told me they had relieved me of my circumstances coaching NU and Choco Mucho. They told me they would find another coach.)

Odjie Mamon will serve as interim coach for the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia with Brazilian coach Sergio Veloso taking over after the biennial meeting and directing the spearheads at the Asian Games.

National Team Committee Chairman Tonyboy Liao said the board had agreed to replace Alinsunurin due to his schedules with UAAP and PVL All-Filipino both beginning in February.

TIME MANAGEMENT ISSUES

Alinsunurin said the team manager regularly asks him if it is possible to align his national team duties with his other coaching contracts this month. He kept replying that he could manage his time.

(Our team manager asks me every day if I can do it. Of course, I answer that I can but PNVF has made my decision. Even so, I have not received a notification letter yet. that I will no longer be a member of the national team.)

The multi-title men’s coach said he has not spoken to his players about elimination since their program was halted following the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam, where the team finished fifth.

“I didn’t tell them about it, but I think they already knew. After the SEA Games, we didn’t have any contact with the players and we didn’t see each other. Nothing at all,” said Alinsunurin in Filipino.
