I took swimming classes so I could learn a little better too and wasn’t too tired when I finished. I’m really just working to get better physically for certain things Challenges will have us do.
Because World ChampionshipUS players will face opponents from parts of the Challenges in Australia, Great Britain and Argentina. All global MVPs will be paired with one Challenge “legend” from the original MTV series. “With my powers, I knew I needed someone smart,” Danny said of his dream partner. “I need someone who is good at solving puzzles, someone who is good at thinking quickly and under pressure very well. I want someone with a clear mind who doesn’t panic when things get tough.”
Viewers will not know who Danny is paired with until the film is released. However, he told us that his wife Kiki McCrayFans fell in love with Danny’s confessions on USAwant him to work with Jonna Mannion. “She knew Jonna was smart,” Danny explained. Like Danny, Kiki is a fan of Challengesand she has some advice she wants to share with her husband before he goes filming World Championship. “She told me the same thing she always told me: ‘Don’t go home without that money!’” Danny dejected. “’Don’t go home telling me you don’t have friends, FaceTiming with new people, unless you figure out how to earn that money. That is the most important thing. If you have to slit someone’s throat, or stab someone in the back, do whatever it takes to get the money back!’”
Challenge: World Championship will premiere with consecutive episodes on March 8. The show streams on Paramount+. See more of our interview with Danny below!
Is there anyone from the Legends side that you would like to work with? Good, Darrell [Taylor] someone I’ve been following for a long time. I always say, ‘Hey, if I had a chance to play with a guy like Darrell, I’d want him around.’ He always seemed to stay out of those alliances, especially with the school’s new MTV guys. I feel like that’s a guy willing to work with me.
What is your relationship like with the other members of the ‘USA’ team participating in the program? We were goo. We didn’t know Justine and Ben were coming, but Sarah and I were really close. We kept track of each other’s workouts and made sure we had a plan in place. Justine is like my little sister, so I’m happy to wear it. I know she will support me. Ben is a wild card, but I’ve met him a few times and we’ve had a few conversations that made me feel he would be on my side too.
What do you already know about your competitors from other countries? We came completely blind. We didn’t get to see any of those seasons before we moved on. They are all new faces to us. I have never heard of any of them. We don’t know how they are afraid [on their seasons]. We just thought we could be a little bit better than them, but they came out and fought. It’s a good first impression from most people.
Now that you’ve played ‘Survivor’ and ‘The Challenge’, how do they compare? Both are very, very fun games, but they are completely different. The way you have to strategize and the way you have to think are completely different. The tempo of the match going on survivor and the way they strip you – no soap, no bathroom – that’s something you have to adapt to. On the other hand, on Challenges you are eating all this nasty stuff and you have to overcome your fear of heights and swim long distances. They are completely different, but no less interesting and engaging.
Do you see yourself competing on either show in the future? Never say never. I don’t think my wife will let me come back survivor because we didn’t get any FaceTime calls and she couldn’t see me. She wants me back Challenges. You never know. It just depends on the caller and how long. I have a two-year-old, and that’s the biggest thing right now.
