Danish driver Jonas Vingegaard wins the 2022 Tour de France
Danish driver Jonas Vingegaard is the 2022 Tour de France champion, defeating two-time defending champion Tadej Pogačar to claim the title in 3 minutes and 34 seconds.
Vingegaard, 25, is racing in his second Tour after finishing second to Pogačar last year 5 minutes 20 seconds. Pogačar enters 2022 as the favorite to win his third League in a row.
Pogačar led most of the first half of the Tour, but Vingegaard surpassed him with stellar performances on mountain stages. Vingegaard took the yellow jersey by winning stage 11 – his first stage win – and all but winning the overall division by winning again on stage 18.
In addition to winning the general division, Vingegaard is also the owner of the polka dot shirt as the winner of the mountain classification.
In the decisive 18th stage, Pogačar made a rare mistake and fell while fighting for the top spot with Vingegaard. The latter was widely praised as he chose to wait for Pogačar to catch up again before finally winning the stage.
