Via Jack Tiernan: Daniel Dubois believes Anthony Joshua will beat Oleksandr Usyk to regain his IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight belt, and Tyson Fury will beat Dillian Whyte in their potential clash on March 26.
Joshua, 32, wants revenge for his loss to Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs) from last September 25, and he will do his best to win. AJ will replace his coach Rob McCracken.
An announcement is expected next week about the name of the new coach, and the location of the training camp.
Both of those wars are yet to be made, but they are expected to happen soon. It’s important for British boxing Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs) and WBC heavyweight champion Fury (31-0-1, 22 KOs) to win the next bouts to both could meet for the undisputed championship in the second half of 2022 in England.
Fury has not yet determined whether he will fight Whyte as they still need to negotiate a split.
Although the World Boxing Council determined that the split would be 80/20, Whyte promoter Eddie Hearn appealed to the sanctioning body for a more substantial split. If Hearn is on track with a 55/45 or 60/40 split, Fury is likely to strip his WBC belt rather than give Whyte what he wants.
Whyte has a chance
Dubois is giving 33-year-old boxer Dillian Whyte a chance to win his fight against WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.
Whyte will need to use his boxing skills to win because if he stands still like Deontay Wilder, he will get bogged down.
“I think it was a good fight. Dillian has a chance; he can box, he can box and he has improved, I think,” Daniel Dubois told Social boxing into the March fight between Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte.
“He definitely has a boxer’s chance, but I think Tyson will, he’s proven himself and he’s a better boxer than most of the men out there. He’s got a lot of different angles, so he’ll probably win it.
Joshua needs to push Usyk back
Dubois thinks Joshua must put pressure on 35-year-old IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs) and not let him box in like last time.
It won’t be easy for Joshua to beat Usyk when under a lot of pressure because he’s slow and robotic, and he’s not nearly as light as his feet.
If Joshua presses Usyk, he will move out of his way and respond to him with sharp punches like the last time they happened on September 25.
“Probably will push him back more,” Dubois said when asked what Anthony Joshua needed to do in a rematch against Oleksandr Usyk which he didn’t do last September in their first match.
“Everybody says it’s common knowledge to be more drastic. In the final battle, it seems that he [Joshua] tried to beat him, but Usyk was an amateur world champion, multiple world titles. So he will be challenged to do it against.
“So push him back and back to the old AJ of destruction and destruction. We shall see; it will be interesting, even if he has [Joshua] Dubois said.
The game plan Dubois wants Joshua to follow in his rematch with Usyk could get him out as it requires stamina and a chin to execute it.
For Joshua to press Usyk repeatedly in the way necessary for him to win, he will need a good tank of gas and handle the counter-attacks he hits him with.
“For me, AJ is not my type of guy to watch because I like to watch typical war and war and all that, but he has an effective style, and he comes and know how to win a war.
“He boxed long and used his little corners, and he experienced what he had. Good luck to him.
“Tyson Fury,” Dubois said when asked who he would choose in the Fury vs Usyk fight. “He’s proven himself, hasn’t he? Usyk, you could say he got lucky against Joshua or whatever, but I think Tyson is going to be tough to beat.
“Expect big things from me [in 2022]. Destruction and devastation all the way. It will be an exciting new year for me. There are great things on the horizon.
“Things are going well,” Dubois said as he gave his assessment of what 2021 is for his career. “It’s time to come back and open a new chapter for me. I am again ready for the big things ahead.
Dubois could face Trevor Bryan next
#1 WBA Dubois (17-1, 16 KOs) is expected to face off against ‘regular’ WBA heavyweight champion Trevor Bryan (21-0, 15 KOs) next if he still has rope possession. wear your own.
This month, 32-year-old Bryan will defend his title on January 29 against undefeated Johnathan Guidry. Dubois will likely face the winner of the contest.
“Sure, that guy and take that belt and really make his mark on him and take that title next,” Dubois said when asked about the possibility he would challenge the heavyweight champion. The next ‘regular’ WBA is Trevor Bryan.
“Hopefully, Frank [Warren] will provide it. We’ll go up there and get to where I’m supposed to be, really. I can beat him; that’s what I see,” Dubois said when asked what he thinks of Trevor Bryan.
Trevor won the vacated ‘regular’ WBA title with an 11th-round knockout win over 43-year-old Bermane Stiverne in January 2021.
It’s not clear why the WBA sanctioned the Stiverne vs Bryan match for their minor heavyweight title, as Bermane entered the competition having lost three of his last four fights.
Ideally, candidates fighting for empty titles should win their match and not come to them with a 1-3 record in their last four competitions.
Daniel wants Joe Joyce to rematch
Dubois’ tenth knockout loss to Joe ‘Juggernaut’ Joyce from November 2020 left him upset despite the passage of time. Now older and wiser at 24, ‘Dynamite’ Dubois feels he is ready to avenge his 6’6″ loss to Joyce.
First on Dubois’ agenda was to wrest the WBA secondary heavyweight belt from Trevor Bryan, and then find a way to rerun it with Joyce if he’s accessible and ready to rematch.
#2 WBO Joyce is in a position to fight for the World Boxing Organization title with champion Oleksandr Usyk. So it’s likely Joyce, 36, will head in that direction before making a risky rematch with Dubois.
“It’s the next step for me, and I’m 100% about it. Of course, win this and go for Joe [Joyce],’ Dubois said when asked if he would like to try to correct his mistakes from his loss to Joe Joyce by taking on him in a rematch.
“For me, that will always be on my mind. As long as he’s still around, I definitely want to fight him again. Maybe next time for a bigger belt. I don’t know, a world title or whatever, but we definitely need to win it.
“They are big battles for me, and I need to win them. I’m excited about fighting and getting in there and taking over, really. Now is my moment,” Dubois said.
It would be better for Dubois to focus on fighting against Usyk and Joshua if he can win the WBA belt from Trevor Bryan. Dubois doesn’t need to worry about fighting Joyce again until he’s up against Bryan, Usyk or Joshua for their titles.
