‘Dallas Buyers Club’ director Jean-Marc Vallée dies
Nathan Ross, a partner in Vallée’s production company Crazyrose, said in a statement: “He’s been a friend, a creative partner, and a brother to me. “The conductor will be greatly missed but it is comforting to know his stunning style and the influential work he shared with the world will live on.”
The director began working on Canadian music videos and short themes, before making his feature film debut with the French-language film “Liste noire”, also known in English as “Black List”. .
His breakthrough film in the United States was “Dallas Buyers Club”, a 2013 film based on the true story of an AIDS patient who became a distributor of experimental treatments. Although Vallée’s direction was not recognized by the Academy, the film was nominated for Best Picture, while stars Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto both won Oscars for their performances.
