Dad-to-be Scottie Thompson already mapping out sleep schedule
MANILA, Philippines – The tireless Scottie Thompson will soon be put to the final test.
With a baby about to be born, the trump card Ginebra is now gearing up for nights that will throw a spanner monkey at the source of its tireless game: Sleep.
But it’s not like he bothers. He’s really excited about it.
“Jinky told me that I focus on basketball as much as I can. But I will be a father [soon] and I’m so happy to be a part of the baby’s life,” he told reporters with a smile on Sunday night, shortly after helping the Gin Kings to a jubilant 116-108 win over Rain. or Shine at the Big Dome.
Thompson, the reigning Player of the Tournament, said he had long prepared for the enormous task of raising a child.
“As soon as Jinky was 5 months old, I talked to her about time management,” he says.
“I suggested that after practice, she took care of everything as soon as 12am. As soon as I woke up, it was my turn. Whenever I was practicing, she took over. I think we can do it by time management,” he added.
Thompson also assured Ginebra fans that he’ll take care of the basketball side of things. His wife is in her seventh month, which means the Gin Kings defender will only be busy with fatherhood after the tournament – where they are the defending champions – is over.
“I think by then the season is over,” he said. “(Delivery will be around) the last week of April or early May.”
“This is going to be a motivator for me, an additional source of inspiration,” Thompson added. “I was just praying for the baby and my wife to be safe. I’m excited because we know your priorities will change after the baby is born. And I’m excited to see how I can fulfill the role of a father and a basketball player in my young career.”
