It’s 2023 and Electronic 2077 finally works… on the Steam Deck, I mean (it’s been working elsewhere for a while now.) Open-world RPGs have always been playable on mobile, but now the Steam Deck is up and running. verified – meaning Valve has tested and used their almighty wisdom to determine it will run without a hitch.
I enjoy playing games on the Steam Deck whenever possible, (my bed is very comfortable) but its portability probably makes the 2077s constant phone calls and text messages feel more natural. Yes, I want to be flooded with messages from crime lords while I’m on a TFL train. Though I’ll probably lower my brightness, in case an NPC catches me on the bus.
The Steam Deck Verified Cards come at just the right time, as Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty’s first major expansion is due sometime this year. Phantom Liberty brings back Keanu’s Johnny Silverhand while adding another lovely Hollywood dad: Idris Elba, aka the voice of the echidna Knuckles. We don’t know too much about the expansion, other than the fact that it will be expensive. Vortex in the real world.
Cyberpunk 2077 joins The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the deck-building spin-off Thronebreaker like CDPR’s other verified Steam Deck titles. The studio says “there are no plans to offer further Steam Deck optimizations to our legacy titles,” so we’ll likely need to wait for CDPR’s witch remake until we can use the 2007 RPG on the go.
