Cyberpunk 2077 is getting more players since launch

Long Troubled Sci-Fi Action RPG Cyberpunk 2077 is experiencing something of a comeback, almost two years since it was released on PC and consoles. CD Projekt revealed in a tweet that the game had a million players every day this week, across all platforms. They say this number includes players new to the Night City, as well as returning players. I’ve never played it, so don’t look at me.

Cyberpunk 2077 arrives in the RTX 4000 series revealed earlier this week.

Like Eurogamer As reported last week, Cyberpunk’s concurrent player count has grown enough to make it one of the most played games on Steam. In the past 24 hours, SteamDB shows the game peaking at 86,130 concurrent players. Just a month ago, the number was around 16,000 and the growing number of players doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Twitch views for the game also increased from the low thousands to nearly 70,000 in early September.

Several things could explain this sudden jump. One is the appearance of Edgerunners Update coincides with Netflix well received animated series of the same name, set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077. Likely the Edgerunners shaking their heads up and down people’s phone consoles drew some more attention to the game, along with the update. Japan. Looming is also the promise of Cyberpunk’s first and only single-player story expansion, Phantom Liberty, at last. disclosure at the beginning of this month and is expected in 2023.

Cyberpunk 2077 was also featured among this week’s NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4000 series announcements, as you can see in the trailer above. The game is getting an Overdrive mode that collects things like neon signs, street lights, car headlights, and billboards with fancy ray tracing. It will also benefit from DLSS 3 support to substantially increase the frame rate. You can read more about all of that here.

Graham rated Cyberpunk 2077 when it came out back in late 2020, and called it a beautiful and broken mess. “Cyberpunk 2077 is huge, vast, complex, and full of flaws,” he said. “It’s at best a fairly simple single-player action game, with lovable characters and thrilling kisses in an intriguingly detailed open world that looks better than any game before it. It’s the worst if you want it to be an RPG, a successor to Deus Ex in your own way, or a polished piece of software. ”

There have been efforts to fix the problems with Cyberpunk. The game saw another increase in concurrent players in February, when 1.5 update was pushed out. Graham was another run through Night City later, but feel the game’s strengths and weaknesses remain intact. “Apart from these simple fixes, Cyberpunk 2077 remains a messy, mediocre RPG when it comes to its combat and progression,” he said. “While 1.5’s tweaks to those systems make for small improvements, it does not – and likely cannot – address the issues adequately.”

Cyberpunk 2077 is on Steam, GOG and Epic game store for £50/$60/€60. 50% off all storefronts until September 25th.
