Cyberattacks are basically a way of life for most businesses these days
For modern businesses, cyberattacks are essentially a daily occurrence, with more and more organizations saying they are facing such crises almost daily.
This is according to a new report from Dell surveying 1,000 IT decision-makers from around the world, working in a variety of public and private industries, with respondents saying their company has experienced The level of natural and modern disasters is higher than in previous years, resulting in more lost dataMore downtime and higher recovery costs.
Out of all of those disasters, cyberattacks were the biggest, as they accounted for almost half (48%) of all recorded incidents. What’s more, they’re up from 37% just a year ago.
Fewer security providers, more protection
Elsewhere, Dell’s 2022 Global Data Protection Index (GDPI) report notes that nearly 9 out of 10 companies (86%) have experienced at least one cybersecurity-related disruption in the past year. past 12 months.
Companies that lost data had to pay more than a million dollars ($1.06 million) in downtime costs, up from $959,000 just a year ago. Companies that were prevented from accessing their data (instead of losing access altogether) lost an average of $660,000.
In the past, to combat the threat, organizations would hire multiple data protection service providers. Now, Dell claims in the report, the situation is changing as businesses realize they are safer with fewer partners. In fact, 85% of organizations using multiple data protection service providers now “see a benefit” in reducing this number. Companies with a single vendor saw a 34% reduction in the cost of recovering from a cybersecurity incident.
In addition to eliminating unnecessary partners, businesses are also increasingly turning to Distrust architecture to keep safe. The report shows that 91% of organizations know or are planning to implement a Zero Trust architecture. However, only a quarter (23%) are implementing the Zero Trust model, while 12% are already fully deployed.
Zero Trust is a cybersecurity model that changes the way companies handle security. Instead of relying solely on perimeter defenses, Zero Trust offers a more proactive strategy that allows only known and authorized traffic through a system of boundaries and data paths.
