Custom Royal Enfield Himalayan 822 with twin cylinder engine on display at IBW 2022


If you always thought that the Royal Enfield Himalayan could have more cylinders and more power, then India Bike Week 2022 is sure to have something special for you. The annual motorcycle event showcases a number of excellent motorcycles – both factory-made and custom – and one of the most eye-catching motorcycles is the Himalayan 822. Built by a tuning company. This is the world’s first and only Royal Enfield Himalayan equipped with a two-pot powertrain. The custom-built project essentially used two BS3-compliant 411 cc long-stroke engines from the standard Himalayan ADV. The engines were rebuilt into a tandem setup with twin carburetors and power improved to around 40-50 hp. For comparison, the original BS6 Himalayan engine develops 24 hp at 6,500 rpm. Maximum torque output is 55 Nm. Radiator from Royal Enfield’s 650 twins. Custom builders say the engine has a new crankcase and camshaft, while the engine now sits on a reinforced chassis with a new subframe to handle the extra weight of the engine.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 822 also has a difference in appearance with a new fiber bodykit. Crafted exclusively by Autologue Design, the jerry can holder has given way to a windscreen for better wind protection. The suspension is still original but has been stiffened to incorporate the upgrades. The round headlights have been replaced with new LED lights from Husqvarna while the dual front disc brakes are set up new. Rear single from KTM 390 Adventure. The car has a 2-in-1 exhaust setup that makes the overall look similar to the original Himalayan. Fuel tank capacity remains unchanged at 15 liters. Finally, the rear wheel has been upgraded to 150/70/R17 size from Husqvarna with the original 21-inch front wheel. Both wheels are wrapped in Shinko Adventure Trail tires.

AutoEngina is ready to build additional Himalayan 822 units for specific orders while Autologue plans to provide separate body kits for Himalayan users in stock. There are also some travel accessories on offer.

That said, there are rumors that Royal Enfield is developing a twin-cylinder version of the Himalayan of its own. The upcoming product will use the amazing 649 cc parallel engine from the 650 Twins. There is also the Himalayan 450 in the works that will appear in the future as a single-cylinder, liquid-cooled offering. The model is expected to go very fast and could be just a Dakar rival if Royal Enfield wants to compete in the challenging rally.
