Croke Park Tops Goffs UK Sale

Returning from a two-year COVID-19 hiatus, UK Aintree Sales 2022 Goffs topped by winning points Croke Park (Ire) (Walking in the park {Ire}) (lot 8) for £400,000. A 4-year-old who used to run second in Lingstown when it launched in March, Ballyboy Stables bay was purchased by Gordon Elliot Racing. His half-brother, Etre Francais (Ire) (Anzillero {Ger}), finished third in a listed barrier in France. This is the family of the winner ranked Oiseau de Nuit (Fr) (Evening World {Fr}).

Second on the buyer’s sheet is lot 1high-class Put the kettle in (Ire) (Stowaway {GB}), the only mare to win the Cheltenham Festival G1 Champion Chase. Supplied by Henry De Bromhead’s Knockeen Racing, she was purchased by Highflyer Bloodstock on behalf of Simon Davies for £380,000. The next Broodmare quest is for the 8-year-old girl and she will visit Davies Planteur’s stallion (Ire) at Stud Chapel.

Deep Cave (Ire) (Cave {Ire}) (lot 17) was changed hands for £235,000. As part of the Charlestown Racing competition, the 4-year-old caught the eye of Henry De Bromhead. The listed hurdles winner’s grandson Soupinette (Fr) (Present {GB}) won a first point at Belclare by six lengths when first claiming it on March 20.

Of the 32 horses entered into the catalog, 31 passed through the ring and 27 were sold (87%) for a total turnover of £3,656,000. The new record average is £135,407 (+6%) and the average drops to £95,000 (-10%). A dozen (13) batches of a baker generated six numbers, with seven numbers hitting £200,000 or more.

Of the 13 six-figure lots, seven earned £200,000 or more, clearly demonstrating the quality on offer and the demand for these premium horses.
