Cre8Audio’s NiftyKeys is a MIDI controller with which you can build a Eurorack system in

Cre8Audio made a splash a few years ago when it launched NiftyCase in 2019, one Eurorack The case has a surprisingly large amount of convenient features for an amazingly low price. Serious, $200 for an 84hp Eurorack case with power supply, a MIDI to CV converter, MIDI over USB capabilities and audio connectivity are nice things. Now the company is going a little further, targeting a niche within a niche, with NiftyKeys.

NiftyKeys is a full-sized 49-key MIDI keyboard with a top mounted 112 hp Eurorack box. Now, at $600 it’s a good investment, especially when you still have to fill it with modules. But the only comparable product I can think of is the now discontinued product Waldorf kb37 retails for $999 and is smaller and less feature-rich than NiftyKeys. Meaning, is it really a bargain?

There are four tones and paired CV ports on the top, which means you can create a four-voice polyphonic synthesis, or four separate mono patches that can be played split across other zones. each other of the keyboard, or a pair of double tone patches, or… you get the idea. There are also CV results for post-touch, velocity, modwheel, expression or LFO synchronized with the clock. There is an internal clock, but the entire system can also be clocked externally, even via MIDI. There’s MIDI in and out/over five pins, plus MIDI over USB. In addition, the keyboard itself features auto-chords, multi-mode sequencer, glide and rotate controls.
