Crawford beat Avanesyan, opening Spence or Charlo Next at 147 or 154

Via Adam Baskin: Terence Crawford is quick to handle display cabinet rival David Avanesyan last Saturday night, stopping him in the sixth round of his one-game trade with BLK Prime on pay-per-view at CHI Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Crawford (39-0.30 KO) nailed 147 lb EBU belt holder Avanesyan (29-4-1, 17 KO) with his left hand, followed by a right hook to knock him out in the sixth round.

Although Avanesyan is ranked in the top 10, he’s not considered one of the better heavyweights in the league, and it’s unclear why the BLK Prime tops are willing to pay Crawford over $10 million. dollars to an opponent of this level instead of insisting on defending him against Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis or Vergil Ortiz Jr.

The 35-year-old Crawford looked fine but didn’t look like him during the best years of his career. Avanesyan laid his hand on Crawford during the competition, showing that age is starting to creep in for the natives of Nebraska.

After the match, Crawford refused to call the IBF, WBA & WBC welterweight champions Errol Spence Jr.but he has expressed interest in going up against him or the undisputed middleweight champion Jermell Charlo.

Given how hard Crawford plays with him acting as his own promoter, it’s unlikely he can negotiate a fight with Spence or Charlo.

Terence will be back in April or May

“We want to fight again. Someone give us someone else,” said Crawford’s coach Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyreafter the war.

“I kept saying I wanted to fight this year. I didn’t want to leave the ring for over a year. I’m trying to get back into regular combat,” Crawford said.

“Hopefully, April or May, somewhere around that time,” Crawford said when asked when he wants to fight again. “We have to wait and see. We cannot cross our boundaries. We don’t know what’s next. I have to go to the drawing board, and my phone stays on. I am ready for anyone.

“I feel like I can peak at 154, I feel like I can be as strong at 154 as well as 147,” Crawford said when asked if he would move up to middle if he couldn’t fight IBF, WBA no & followed by WBC welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr.

“A lot of people say I’m small compared to 147, but I feel with my strength, skill and mindset, I can put on weight and fight the best of them,” Crawford said.

“He can make 147 pretty easily. He makes it look easy,” said Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre, Crawford’s coach. “I think this man can do whatever he wants at 147 or 154. He’s proven to the world that he’s the best in terms of pounds.

“If he chooses to go up to 154 and go back to 147, then let it be. That’s what he wanted to do. Personally, I don’t think anyone at 154 or 147 can beat him. It’s as simple as that. The only question is, who would be willing to fight him?

“You don’t see anyone calling Bud at 54 or 47. They’ll probably try to stop him,” BoMac said.

Crawford joked: “I could be relegated to 135 and play Shakur Stevenson.

Crawford refuses to call Spence

“I don’t need to text anyone,” Crawford said when asked if he had sent any messages to Errol Spence. “People have seen what I did in welterweight. Everyone can see who I called.

Crawford said of Spence: “I didn’t know he had another accident. “I hope he is okay. We are all fighting for that number 1 spot. It is not personal. It is just business.

“Everybody knows what Terence Crawford has to offer. So there’s not too much that I need to do. I’ve had a lot of spectacular knockouts earlier in my career, but this is the top five,” Crawford said as he assessed his knockout at sixth place in WBO ranked Avanesyan.
