Craig Dado Leaves Del Mar

Craig Dado, a member of the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club’s board of directors for the past 20 years, is leaving the organization to pursue other opportunities.

Dado, 54, from Northern California, has been Del Mar’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer since 2013. He joined the company in 2001 as vice president of marketing, then in in 2010 was appointed senior vice president before assuming the current role. .

Before coming to Del Mar, Dado began his racing career at Santa Anita Park in 1991, where he worked his way up to the track’s vice president of marketing.

“Craig has been a solid contributor to our efforts at Del Mar over the past two decades,” said Joe Harper, CEO of DMTC. “His wits and instincts in the marketing business have helped Del Mar rise to the top of the racing industry and for that we will forever be grateful. We wish him nothing but that he move on to other things.”

Dado oversaw the song’s successful strategies to attract younger fans through its use of music and food and drink festivals. He spearheaded the race’s “branding” efforts through its blue and gold diamond color themes as well as its “Cool as Ever” marketing and advertising programs.

“Working at Del Mar has been a dream job for over 20 years. I can’t thank Joe Harper and the amazing people there,” said Dado. “I will miss it, but I have an opportunity to run my own business, which has been my goal for many years. I feel like I’ve picked the right time.”
