With the Kedarnath Temple Commission announcing the opening date of Shri Kedarnath Dham, cracks were found on a stretch of road along the Badrinath Highway near Joshimath between JP and Marwari.
Chamoli DM Himanshu Khurana said cracks had appeared on the road from JP to Marwari on the Badrinath Highway.
Khurana said: “The Border Road Organization (BRO) has directed to inspect the cracks and take protective measures.
According to DM Khurana Joshimath, residents “complained about cracks in some houses”.
“A team of engineers in Joshimath has been sent to check the cracks in the houses so that we can know the actual situation,” he added.
Hundreds of residents have been moved to relief centers in safe places after cracks appeared in some homes in Joshimath, indicating subsidence.
The Uttarakhand government has announced relief packages worth billions of dong for affected families in Joshimath.
In January, Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said relief packages had been released to nearly 3,000 families affected by gradual land subsidence in the Himalayan state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concern about the situation in Joshimath and pledged to help the state government in mobilizing rescue and relief during a phone call with Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami earlier.
Badrinath Dham is one of four ancient pilgrimage sites known as ‘Char Dham’, including Yamunotri, Gangotri and Kedarnath. It is located in the town of Badrinath in Uttarakhand. It remains open for six months each year (from late April to early November).
