Cover Reveal – Forspoken: Check out the gold version!

Square Enix has plenty of powerhouse franchises under its belt, from Final Fantasy to Dragon Quest. But every so often, the acclaimed publisher gets a chance at a new idea, and that seems like something we’ll see more of thanks to the founding of Luminous Productions.

Luminous Productions was founded with the sole purpose of developing new IPs, and for its first project, Forspoken, the studio wasn’t afraid to step out of its comfort zone and bring in new talent, like Gary Whitta (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and Amy Hennig (Uncharted), to realize her ambition. The open-world RPG takes a young New Yorker named Frey to a fantasy yet dangerous land where she gains magical powers to fend off evil witches, dragons, and zombies. Just like Dorothy in Wizard of OzFrey just wants to find her way home, but this is far from your typical fairy tale.

For our 14-page cover story, we received an announcement from Luminous Productions about how this unique project took shape. We also watched nearly 30 minutes of actual footage of the game, including a previously unseen area called Avoalet. During our time, we’ve encountered lightning-fast moves that Frey will use to travel the world and gain an advantage in battle alongside the various spells at her disposal. We also learned more about the fascinating world of Athia where the game takes place, gaining insight into its inner workings.

And that only scratched the surface of our Forspoken dig, which up until this point, Square Enix remained shrouded in mystery. You can check out our stylish cover below, created by art director Yuuki Matsuzawa, who also made Game informant Final Fantasy XV . cover.

However, the magic doesn’t stop there. This issue is packed with features, from our Spring Buying Guide to Game informant Choose the best Pokemon of each type. We also delve into upcoming games such as Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands and Eiyuden Chronicles: Rise, with the latter featuring a special character reveal. Also, Jill Grodt takes us behind the scenes of the action/adventure game making Dresswhile Wesley Leblanc explores the Metaverse and the game’s potential place in it.

In addition, we have a Game informant Yellow variation with a different design. Stay tuned for details on how to get this version.
