Court Pulls Up IIT Kharagpur Director Over Student’s Death

'Should have known': Court pulls IIT Director Kharagpur over student's death

The Calcutta Supreme Court has requested that the Director be present at the hearing on this petition.

Kolkata:

The Calcutta High Court today summoned the Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, the top technical college that has caused a stir over the death of a student on campus, saying that he should have known that children of exceptional ability come to the academy from different social or economic backgrounds and may not be able to freely mingle with students from other backgrounds. It also observed that college counseling sessions should be “lowest”. On December 1 of last year, the court reprimanded him for not acting on a ragged complaint that followed the student’s death.

“We cannot see any softening in this matter. It is a modest request from this court. Please do not take sides,” the court told police today.

A detailed report was presented in court today addressing the omissions, replacing the previous “random report” submitted by the Director. The court had previously dismissed the university’s vague report of action taken following a complaint by 23-year-old Faizan Ahmed from Tinsukia in Assam in February, months before his decomposing body He was discovered in a dormitory.

The court said a high-powered commission would be formed if its guidelines were consistent with the Supreme Court’s order on ragged conduct.

“It is reported that a meeting of the Board of Governors has been set for February 10. It is expected that IIT Kharagpur will take strict and deterrent measures not only in this incident but also to prevent it. prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.” it added.

The high court said the review of the status of the investigation would take place on February 6 and the court must issue a ruling on the same day, adding that the role of the IIT and its direction over them. will be reviewed on February 13, when the matter will be heard next.

The Calcutta High Court ordered the Superintendent present at this hearing on a complaint filed by the parents of third-year Mechanical Engineering student Faizan Ahmed, who alleges that their son’s death occurred at his facility. hospital was an ‘obvious murder case’ and he could be ragged even after complaining to the authorities.

Faizan Ahmed’s decomposing body was found from a dorm room on October 14 last year. The court requested the IIT Director’s report, and upon review, the court said the Director’s report was “totally misleading” if not an attempted cover-up.

What was originally believed to be a case of suicide by one of the students at IIT Kharagpur, due to academic pressure was alleged to be a murder case by the student’s family, with Calcutta High Court ordered the police to check whether the court’s anti-tamper guidelines were being followed at the leading institute of higher education.

In light of the large number of discrepancies pointed out by Faizan Ahmed’s parents, the court had previously asked the police to produce a case log and instructed the district’s top police officer to conduct a detailed investigation. details.
