He recalled how Barphukan had put the national interest above blood ties and did not hesitate to punish even his relatives. “Lachit Barphukan’s life inspires us to go beyond the dynasty and think about the country. He once said there is no greater relationship than the country,” he said.
Modi suggested creating a major stage play on Lachit Barphukan following the line of the play on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and showing it nationwide. He also released the book ‘Lachit Borphukan – The Hero of Assam who stopped the Mughals’ – on this occasion.
The Prime Minister said the life and times of immortal children like Lachit Barphukan were the inspiration for the implementation of the resolutions of ‘Amrit Kaal’. He emphasized, when a nation knows its true past, that nation can be on the right track for the future.
